A Komatsu loader is a machine used for lifting and moving heavy materials, such as soil, rock, and gravel, using a hydraulic powered bucket. All loaders have the same basic working principle: The diesel engine generates torque via the torque converter, which sends power to the loader's transmissions and drives the hydraulic pump to supply high-pressure hydraulic fluid to the loader's implement and steering systems.

The torque converter is a fluid coupling that connects the engine to the transmission. The torque converter helps the engine generate more torque, typically when the loader is used to "dig" into a pile of dirt or another material, and allows the loader to come to a complete stop without stalling the engine.
The transmission, which is typically hydromechanical, powershift or both, is the means by which the engine's torque is transmitted to the loader's wheels and axles. Most Komatsu loaders use a hydromechanical transmission, which provides superior speed control and increased fuel efficiency compared to other types of transmission.
The loader's hydraulic system consists of hydraulic pumps, hydraulic cylinders, control valves, and hydraulic fluids.
The hydraulic pumps provide the power to lift and move the loader's bucket, and the hydraulic cylinders control the loader's steering system.
The hydraulic pumps generate high-pressure hydraulic fluid from the engine to the loader's pumps.
The operator uses foot pedals and joysticks to control the flow of hydraulic fluid to the loader's hydraulic pumps.
For example, the two lift cylinders raise and lower the loader's boom and bucket.
The tilt cylinder curls the bucket forward to dump and backward to retain a load.
The loader's steering cylinders are powered by a separate hydraulic system.
